How do I add the tracking number and carrier?
When you sell, you add the tracking details on the order once the parcel is on its way.
- Open Selling and the Sales tab, then the order.
- Press Mark as sent.
- Enter the Tracking number. It is required: a tracking link alone is not enough.
- Press Mark as sent.
We check the tracking number with the carrier tracking service as you send, and it usually finds the carrier on its own; the Carrier then shows on the order. If the number is not recognised, you are asked to check it. If the carrier cannot be found, a Carrier field appears for you to fill in. Nothing is saved until it is right.
The other user is told the parcel is on its way only once the carrier confirms it: when the carrier's tracking first shows it, usually as soon as the label is registered. Until then your order reads Sent – awaiting carrier confirmation, and theirs still says it is waiting for shipment. At confirmation they get an email and a notification with the carrier and the expected delivery date, and your order becomes Sent – waiting for delivery.
If the carrier has not confirmed the parcel 6 hours after you mark it sent, we ask you to check the tracking number and add the carrier or the full tracking link. Open the order and press Edit tracking: the Carrier and Tracking link fields are there from then on. A link must start with https://. Saving a tracking link counts as confirmation: the other user is told the parcel is on its way, with the link and an estimated delivery date, and our team checks the link. The shipping deadline is met only once the parcel is confirmed, by the carrier or by your tracking link: an order still unconfirmed when the deadline passes is cancelled and the other user refunded.
Choosing a carrier
You choose the carrier and buy the postage yourself. Tack-o-Tack does not supply shipping labels. The shipping fee the other user paid is passed on to you to cover it.
What the tracking is used for
We follow the parcel through the carrier's tracking to record when it is delivered. The Expected delivery on the order comes from the carrier's tracking and updates as the parcel moves; until the carrier gives one, it is an estimate by route: 2 working days within Switzerland, 3 within France, 5 within Italy, 3 within any other EU country, 6 across a border. It is for information only: it does not start any clock.
